Matthews Lions at work - 2008 events:

  JANUARY:

  • 1/08 - Aida Arak reported that the MLC board approved a fund-raising event for Thursday, Feb 7, 2008, to held at Bob Evans Restaurant. Bob Evans will donate to us 20% of their gross sales for all dinners sold over a 2 hour period - from 6 pm to 8 pm on 2/7/08. The funds received from this event will be earmarked for Campaign Sight First II.
  • 1/15 - Lion Johnny explained that White Cane funds are for the State of North Carolina Lions and he would like to bring our figure up to $50.00 per member before year end. He would like to pursue locations, perhaps 2 or 3 to conduct white cane fund raisers so that we can reach that goal. A motion was made and carried that we donate $1,000 to Campaign Site II in order to provide a Melvin Jones Award to honor a member of the Matthews Lions Club. This money can be donated over time as money becomes available. An award recipient will be chosen at a later date by committee.
  • Also, Lion Floyd introduced Guest speaker Steve Hardig, who is a former Board member of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Charlotte Chapter. Steve gave an informative presentation about the JDRF. The goal of this foundation is to help fund research to cure Juvenile Diabetes, aka Type I Diabetes. Their website is: www.jdrf.org/charlotte. Lion Chad would like for us to form a team to participate in the annual Walk for Diabetes at Carowinds.
